He first held the position of Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Université Laval and researcher at the IUCPQ Research Center, before becoming Full Professor and FRQS Researcher of Merit, where he continues his work on cardiovascular pathologies.

Professor Bonnet was appointed Fellow of the American Heart Association and Director of the Research Chair in Vascular Pathologies with Remodeling. This title, one of the most prestigious in the scientific community, is awarded to researchers who have demonstrated leadership, creativity, and excellence in the field of fundamental and clinical cardiovascular health research.

Dr. Bonnet is also interested in coronary artery diseases and heart failure. His promising discoveries in these fields have been published in internationally renowned scientific journals such as Science Translational Medicine and Nature Cardiovascular Research.

Professor Bonnet’s research led to the discovery of the mechanism responsible for pulmonary arterial hypertension, a serious disease that primarily affects young adults. His team has also identified two promising substances for the treatment of this condition.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Work description” tab_id=”sb-work-description”]

Work description

[vc_column_text]The group of Dr. Bonnet uses a multidisciplinary and translational approach (from genes to population) in order to study the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in the development of the process of vascular and bronchial remodeling. This work allows the identification of new biomarkers, thus improving the identification and clinical management of individuals afflicted by PAH. His research also identified new therapeutic targets such as Pim-1, miR-204 or PARP-1 in PAH. In addition, numerous works carried out in the laboratory of Dr. Bonnet aim at evaluating the impact of these targets in the COPD and the coronary diseases which have several similarities with PAH.

The recent association of Drs Bonnet and Provencher creating the pulmonary hypertension research group offers new prospects of research in PAH. Indeed, the association of the fundamental research of Dr. Bonnet to the clinical research of Dr. Provencher allows research projects initiated in the laboratory to reach the patient’s bedside which will accelerate, without any doubt, the discovery of new therapies.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Awards and distinctions” tab_id=”sb-awards-and-distinctions”]

Awards and distinctions

[vc_column_text]

Virtuose de la santé, Tribute to underline the remarkable contribution of honored researchers, their dedication in research and in training high caliber succession in health sciences, Laval University, 2022

Yves Morin Price, awarded to highlight the quality of its supervision of graduate students for residents and the transmission of his passion for research, Faculty of Medicine, Laval University, 2019

Recognition award, scientific chair of Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute annual congress, 2019

Chair elect program committee of the American Thoracic Society (2018-2020)

Chair SCILL committee of the American Heart Association (2017-2019)

Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute North America representative, 2019

Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute Research award, 2017

European Respiratory Society Research Award on Pulmonary Hypertension, 2015

Prix Louise Rousselle-Trottier awarded by Fondation des maladies du coeur et de l’AVC-Québec for his study entitled ” Role for DNA damage signalling in Pulmonary Hypertension”. He is particularly interested in the mechanisms underlying exercise intolerance and respiratory muscle overload in chronic and acute respiratory conditions, including pulmonary hypertension, COPD and critical illness. His approach integrates advances physiological assessments, including electromyography (EMG), near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), and dynamic respiratory measurements, to investigate muscle function, oxygen delivery and ventilatory mechanics. He also explores how targeted rehabilitation interventions and ventilatory support strategies can improve patient outcomes, reduce dyspnea and optimize recovery.

By bridging fundamental physiology with clinical practice, Dr Rodrigues aims to develop personalized therapeutic strategies to improve functional capacity, reduce dyspnea, and optimize quality of life in patients with respiratory limitations.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Awards and distinctions” tab_id=”1759773417052-3c6f554a-c415″]

Awards and distinctions

[vc_column_text]

The John Laffey award for outstanding academic achievement and contribution to Critical Care Research, University of Toronto, 2024

CIHR fellowship award, 2024

Trainee research award from the interdepartmental division of critical care medicine, University of Toronto, 2023

Emerging investigator award for investigators who have contributed to content published in AJRCCM, 2023

Early career professional highlight award, The ATS pulmonary Rehabilitation assembly early career professionals (ECPs), 2022

Art Slustky research day finalist oral abstract presenter award, University of Toronto, 2022

“Patrono” honor given to professor who is chosen by the students due to their broad knowledge, scientific and academic prominence, course of physical therapy, Pitágoras college, Londrina, Brazil, 2019

European Respiratory Society Young scientific sponsorship award, ERS, 2017

[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Grants” tab_id=”1759773417179-b4716cec-56ac”]

Grants

[vc_column_text]

SMHA AFP Innovation funds: Comparing standard and asymmetrical high flow nasal cannula versus non-invasive ventilation in the treatment of exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and hypercapnic respiratory failure, co-applicant (2025-2027)

ATS: Asymmetrical high flow oxygen vs non-invasive ventilation in acute hypercapnic respiratory failure, co-applicant (2025-2026)

The Cardiovascular Medical Research and Education Fund: Beyond remodeling: exploring sotatercept’s multifaceted impact on pulmonary arterial hypertension outcomes, co-applicant (2025-2027)

Getinge Research Grant: Susceptibility for entrainment; role of ventilator settings on the occurrence of reverse triggering and its physiological consequences, co-applicant (2025)

Trainee Research award from the Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care of Medicine, fellowship, principal applicant (2023-2024)

St. Michael’s Hospital Medical Services Association (SMHA) innovation funds: Physiological evaluation of accessory muscle activity and function after traumatic spinal cord injury: the ACCESSIT study, co-applicant (2023-2025)

Team Breath Research award from the Lung Health Foundation: co-applicant (2022-2023)

[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tour][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1584807143299{margin-bottom: 40px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Quebec PAH research group is made up of university professors, clinicians and fundamentalists, with varied but complementary and multidisciplinary expertise mainly covering epigenetics, metabolism, cellular response […]

["post-16313","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
